It is an epiphytic orchid having a compact, branching growth habit with slender, elongated stems that produce numerous aerial roots. The leaves are small, fleshy, and oblong, arranged alternately along the stem. The flowers are small and intricately shaped, resembling insects, which is reflected in its species name "insectifera." with a combination of white, yellow, and red hues, and have a distinctive lip.

Its extracts and infusions have been used for their potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
