It is a climbing or trailing perennial with thick, woody stems that can grow up to several meters long. Its leaves are heart-shaped or ovate, with a smooth edge and a prominent network of veins. The plant produces small, tubular flowers that are usually greenish or pale yellow and are arranged in loose clusters. The flowers have a distinctive, sweet fragrance. The plant also bears small, smooth, and elongated fruits that contain numerous seeds.
