It is a medium-sized, evergreen tree that grows up to 15 meters tall. The leaves are large, leathery, and oblong with prominent veins, often forming a rosette-like arrangement. The tree produces large, showy yellow flowers with five petals, which are fragrant and bloom singly or in small clusters. The fruit is round, hard, and greenish-yellow, containing multiple seeds embedded in a fibrous pulp, resembling an apple.

The fruit is believed to have astringent and digestive properties and is used to treat diarrhea, dysentery, and other gastrointestinal issues.
