It is an evergreen to semi-deciduous tree. It has a wide, spreading crown with aerial roots. The leaves are large, ovate to elliptic, and glossy, with smooth margins. The tree produces small, greenish to reddish figs that are round to oblong and grow in clusters along the branches.

The bark and leaves are used to treat wounds, skin infections, and fever.
