It is a medium to large-sized deciduous tree. Bark is smooth and grayish-brown when young, becoming rougher and developing fissures as the tree matures. Leaves are compound, alternate, and pinnate. Each leaf consists of 5-9 pairs of leaflets and a terminal leaflet. Flowers are large, pendulous racemes, fragrant, pink to mauve in color. The flowers have five petals and numerous stamens. Fruit is cylindrical, initially green and turning brown when mature.
