It is a climbing herbaceous vine. It has delicate, compound leaves with three deeply lobed leaflets, giving a feathery appearance. The small white flowers grow in clusters and are followed by distinctive inflated, balloon-like capsules that contain black seeds marked with a white heart-shaped spot.
