It is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 15 meters tall and has a wide spreading crown. Leaves are simple, opposite, entire, and lanceolate to elliptic in shape. Flowers are large, showy, and appear in terminal panicles. Each flower has six crinkled petals and prominent stamens. Fruits are woody capsules, spherical to ovoid in shape and contain numerous tiny seeds
