It is a parasitic plant with thin, yellowish stems that twine around the host plant. It lacks leaves and chlorophyll, relying entirely on its host for nutrients. Small, white, or yellow flowers are produced in clusters along the stems. The plant produces small, round berries that turn from green to white or yellow when ripe.

Whole plant paste is used to remove lice.
