It is a perennial herb. It features a rosette of elliptic to oblong leaves at the base, which are rough and hairy. The stem is erect, branched, and also covered with rough hairs. The plant produces small, tubular, purple flowers arranged in dense, terminal clusters. The fruits are small, dry, and crowned with pappus.

Leaves are used in asthma.
