It is a medium-sized deciduous tree with light grey or brownish bark, which peels off in thin strips. The leaves are alternate, pinnate, with 5-9 pairs of leaflets that are oblong or lanceolate in shape. Flowers are small, pink or purple-white, and arranged in axillary panicles. The fruit is a flat, thin pod, about 4-8 cm long, containing 1-3 seeds.

It is traditionally used to treat respiratory issues, skin disorders, and inflammation.
