It is a small, herbaceous plant that typically grows up to 1 meter in height. The stems are slender and quadrangular, often covered in fine hairs. The leaves are opposite, ovate to lanceolate, and have a rough texture due to small hairs on the surface. The plant produces small, white to pale purple flowers that are clustered in terminal or axillary inflorescences. The fruits are small, dry capsules that contain numerous tiny seeds.
