It is a creeping perennial with wiry stems. Its leaves are linear, flat, and taper to a point, arranged alternately along the stem. The grass forms dense mats, rooting at nodes along the stolons. Its inflorescence consists of digitate spikes, bearing small spikelets.

In traditional medicine, it's used for various ailments like urinary disorders, fevers, and as a diuretic.
