Stems are woody and have a grayish-brown coloration. Leaves are alternate, simple, and have a broadly ovate to orbicular shape. They are usually serrated along the margins and have a smooth texture. Flowers are small and have five petals, pale yellow in color and have a tubular shape. The flowers often grow in clusters at the ends of branches. Fruits are small, round, and fleshy. The fruits contain several small seeds embedded in the pulp.

Bark is used in the treatment of dysentery. It is also used for ornamental purposes.
