It is a perennial herb with a bulbous base. The plant typically grows to a height of 30-50 cm. It features narrow, lanceolate leaves that are dark green. The flowers are small, white, and star-shaped, blooming in clusters on a slender stalk. The bulb is reddish-brown, oval-shaped.

The bulb has been used traditionally to treat diabetes.
