It is a woody shrub or vine. It has slender, angular stems that may be slightly hairy when young. The leaves are opposite, pinnate, with 5-7 leaflets that are ovate to lanceolate in shape, dark green, and glossy. Its fragrant flowers are white, tubular, with five lobes, and typically bloom in clusters. The fruit is a small, black berry.
