It is an evergreen tree. The plant has large, glossy, and elliptical to oblong leaves with prominent veins. Its flowers are small, white, and tubular, growing in clusters. The fruit is a distinctive, lumpy, greenish-yellow drupe that turns translucent when ripe, often with a strong, pungent odor. The fruit's surface is marked by polygonal pits containing seeds.
